Introduction to the usage principle of paint remover

Time: 2023-05-19 09:36:31    Copyfrom: Changchen Ruihua New Materials Technology (Jiangyin) Co., Ltd.

The paint remover mainly relies on the organic solvents in the paint remover to dissolve and swell most coatings, in order to remove the old coatings on the surface of the substrate. When the paint remover penetrates into the polymer chain gaps of the coating polymer, it causes the polymer to swell, causing the volume of the coating film to continuously increase. The internal stress generated by the increase in the volume of the polymer in the coating film weakens and later destroys the adhesion of the coating film to the substrate. The coating film develops from point swelling to sheet swelling, causing the coating film to wrinkle, completely destroying the adhesion of the coating film to the substrate, and ultimately biting and removing the coating film.

Lacquer removers can be divided into two categories based on the different film-forming substances they remove: one type is formulated with organic solvents such as ketones, benzenes, and coolants, as well as volatile inhibitors such as paraffin, commonly known as white medicine, mainly used to remove old coatings such as oil-based, alkyd, and nitro paints. This type of paint remover is mainly composed of volatile organic solvents, which have problems such as flammability and toxicity, and are relatively inexpensive.

Another type is chlorinated hydrocarbon paint remover, commonly known as water flushing paint remover, which is mainly composed of dichloromethane, paraffin, and cellulose ether. It is mainly used to remove cured old coatings such as epoxy asphalt, polyurethane, epoxy phthalamine, or amino alkyd resin. The paint removal efficiency is high, the toxicity is small, and it is widely used. Paint removers using dichloromethane as the main solvent can be divided into neutral paint removers (pH=7 ± 1), alkaline paint removers (pH> 7), and acidic paint removers according to different pH values.
